Germany Frankfurt Mission Advice: Sisters Edition

Getting your call to the Germany Frankfurt Mission is exciting — and preparing for it can be just as much of an adventure! Germany is beautiful, historic, and full of people ready to hear your message. But before you board that plane, it’s important to know what to pack so you’re ready for all that your mission will bring.

Here’s some advice from Sister MissionaryMall to help you prepare:

Clothing: Layering Is Key!

The weather in Germany can change quickly, and the seasons are very distinct. Layering is absolutely essential. In the winter, you’ll want warm base layers, sweaters, and outerwear that can be added or removed as temperatures fluctuate throughout the day.

  • Winter: Durable pants are a must for staying warm while you’re out walking and taking public transportation. Pair them with cozy sweaters and a heavy, mission-appropriate coat.

  • Spring/Summer: As the weather warms up, you’ll want lighter dresses and skirts that are easy to move in and breathable. Still, keep a cardigan or two handy — it can still get chilly in the evenings.

Pro tip: Having versatile, mix-and-match items will help you adapt quickly without overfilling your suitcase!

Shoes: Comfort Over Everything

Missionary work in Frankfurt means walking a lot and relying heavily on public transportation (think trains, buses, and lots of cobblestone streets!). The right shoes will make all the difference.

  • Danskos and DOTs are both fantastic choices. They are comfortable, supportive, and built to last long days on your feet.

  • Winter boots are non-negotiable! Look for something waterproof, insulated, and easy to walk in for icy or snowy days. You’ll thank yourself later.

Make sure you break in your shoes before you leave — your feet will need all the support they can get!

Random but Important Tips

  • Public Bathrooms: Heads up — most public restrooms in Germany charge a small fee to use. Always keep a few coins with you just in case!

  • Transportation: You’ll be on public transportation 99% of the time, so a good, weather-resistant backpack and a reliable umbrella will quickly become your best friends.

Preparing for the Frankfurt Germany Mission is all about thinking ahead and packing smart. With the right clothing layers, sturdy shoes, and a few insider tips, you'll be ready to focus on what really matters — serving the Lord and the people of Germany!
